Kristín Ómarsdóttir is an Icelandic author, poet and playwright. Translations of her works are available in Danish, English, Finnish, French, Galician, German, and Swedish. Her poems have appeared in international anthologies.
Kristín Ómarsdóttir was born in Reykjavík. She grew up mostly in Hafnarfjörður. She completed her education at the University of Iceland, studying Icelandic, comparative literature, and Spanish. Kristín has lived in Copenhagen and Barcelona but now resides and works in Reykjavík.
Ómarsdóttir's novel Elskan mín ég dey was nominated for the Nordic Council Literature Prize in 1999. Her play, Ástarsaga 3, received a nomination for the Nordic Playwrights Award. In 2005, she was awarded Playwright of the Year at the Icelandic Performing Arts Awards for Segðu mér allt.
Her poetry book Sjáðu fegurð þína won the Icelandic Women's Literary Prize in 2008. Ómarsdóttir's work has been consistently recognized, with nominations for the Icelandic Literary Prize and the Nordic Council Literature Prize.
Swanfolk, published in the UK and US in 2022, is her latest novel translated into English. The book is a haunting narrative set in the near future. It follows Elísabet Eva, a spy who encounters half-swan, half-human creatures. This encounter leads Elísabet to question her sanity and reality. Swanfolk explores themes of identity, existence, and the human condition.
